Behind Our Name
“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

We believe in transformation. Just like how a caterpillar enters a cocoon, only to leave as a beautiful butterfly, girls and women in South Sudan need structural supports that allow them to become the best versions of themselves. Education, like the cocoon phase of metamorphosis, allows girls and women, like caterpillars, to develop the skills that they need to reach their butterfly stage of transformation and growth. We want to help young women build their own set of wings through perseverance, persistence, and hard work, so that once their education is complete, their wings are strong, sturdy, and ready to be tested. We want to help them “take flight” and spread their wings so that they can fly, preparing them to shine their light and impact their environment more significantly than they ever dreamed.
